Meet Dr. Baughman

Dr. Baughman is an experienced orthodontist who has served Stockton and the surrounding communities for more than 30 years, and provided exceptional care. He is well known as a leader in the profession of orthodontics, and has achieved significant and unusual accomplishments in his career. Dr. Baughman has surrounded himself with an outstanding group of experienced team members who are trained to help you attain the finest orthodontic result possible, and would enjoy helping to create a beautiful and healthy new smile for you.

Dr. Baughman has been a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics for more than 30 years, and a member of numerous dental and orthodontic associations, including the American Association of Orthodontists, the Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists, the California Association of Orthodontists, the American Dental Association, the California Dental Association, the San Joaquin Dental Society, and the Edward H. Angle Society of Orthodontists.

He is past president of the local dental society (SJDS), the Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists, the Northern California Component of the Edward H. Angle Society, the International Edward H. Angle Society, and he has served in the House of Delegates of the American Association of Orthodontists, its legislative leadership body, for nearly 25 years. Dr. Baughman recently concluded his AAO service as Speaker of the House of Delegates from 2013 to 2015. His career has been distinguished by a dedication to service to the orthodontic profession, including untold years of participation on numerous boards of directors for many of the above organizations.

Dr. Baughman has been honored by the PCSO twice since 2005: He received its highest recognition at the annual meeting of the organization, once in 2005 as recipient of the Award of Merit and in 2009 as Annual Session Honoree. Each of these honors is awarded to a single member of the PCSO annually for lifetime achievement and contribution to the profession of orthodontics. In 2011, he was awarded the California Association of Orthodontists Distinguished Service Award for Lifetime Achievement. He is very proud and humbled by these honors bestowed by his peers.

Additionally Dr. Baughman is a member of many dental and orthodontic honorary organizations, including fellowship in the American College of Dentists, the International College of Dentists, and the Pierre Fauchard Academy. Each of these organizations is limited by invitation to less than three percent of the dental profession, and each is considered an ultimate achievement in the profession.

During his education, Dr. Baughman graduated from three distinguished universities. He earned his bachelor’s degree cum laude from Miami University in Ohio, his Doctorate of Dental Surgery summa cum laude from the Ohio State University, and his master’s in orthodontics from the prestigious University of Michigan. At Ohio State, he was class valedictorian, at the top of his class of nearly 160 dental classmates. At Miami he was inducted into the national academic honor society, Phi Beta Kappa, and at Ohio State, the dental honorary, Omicron Kappa Upsilon.

He participates in an outstanding study club, the Peninsula Orthodontic Research Group, which is one of the oldest study clubs in the country, and considers its members among his closest friends. All members have an ongoing commitment to maintain an updated orthodontic education and render the highest quality of care. In addition, Dr. Baughman has volunteered more than 20 years of expertise to San Joaquin County’s Craniofacial Anomalies Clinic, counseling families of cleft lip and palate patients.

In his spare time, Dr. Baughman enjoys travel with his wife Carol, and amateur photography, and is an avid sports fan. He loves baseball and follows the Oakland A’s, has season football tickets at Ohio State, and sometimes travels with the University of the Pacific basketball team as a loyal booster. He serves on the University of the Pacific Athletic Association board of directors and has been a member of the local Rotary Club for more than 30 years of serving the community of Stockton.

Dr. Baughman enjoys all aspects of orthodontic treatment and delights in helping children and adults achieve a healthy and beautiful smile and improved self-confidence.
